SYNOPSIS:

A Lick and a Prayer is a short form scripted comedy series set in the hardworking Lobster fishing port of North Rustico, Price Edward Island. The show features two cantankerous, and wise cracking siblings whose wild antics alienate them from their neighbours and family. Buzz and Mack are in their late 50’s and both are recently widowed. But, instead of facing their grief they turn to mischief instead. Without their partners keeping an eye on them these two rabble rousers find themselves in all kinds of trouble. Because for the first time in their lives they are starting to see that their perfect little seaside town ain’t so perfect after all. In fact, there seems to a growing criminal underbelly of greasy crooks and seedy CFA’s (Come From Aways). The problem is no one else in town seems to notice. Not even the police. With their suspicions growing the two decide to take matters into their own hands, but little did they know their investigation would lead them to the village priest, Father Campbell. Who may or may not be a gangster.

Father Campbell is a streetwise Padre from Glasgow Scotland who performs is clerical duties with the charisma of a Celtic charlatan. He quotes Billy Connolly more than he quotes the King James. He’s also very crafty and every time Buzz and Mack think they’ve got him dead to rights, he slips his Cossack and disappears. Leaving our heroes without evidence they need to expose him. In this five-episode story arc our bumbling duo will face-off against a new adversary each week. And as hard as they try to solve the mysteries they uncover, they just seem to make everything worse. To catch these crooks, they will need to overcome the challenges of their aging bodies, their lack of tech skills, and will need to lean on the eccentric secondary characters that make up their colourful village.

Although the premise may seem a little dark this will be a heart-warming buddy comedy with a salty east coast bite. Humour will drive each episode and the laughs will come from these vibrant and fully formed characters. Although it is a Canadian show it will have a very British vibe. Think Basil Faulty’s sharp tongue and quick wit from Faulty Towers mixed with the shenanigans and hi-jinx of Still Game. And although it’s been inspired by these shows it remains a distinctly PEI story.
This is a show that could only be made on Prince Edward Island because it will also give an accurate representation of island life.

Islanders are dying for this type of content and stories. Stories that show the rest of the country what it is really like to live here. It will also appeal to many communities across the maritimes, and the universal themes of friendship, grief, love, and finding your purpose when the life you knew has disappeared will resonate from coast to coast. We believe this show has legs and could run for a few successful seasons. So, let’s get after it.
